It is a common suggestion: a couple ounces of liquid courage can help you boost sexual stamina.
But is it true?
Short answer: sort of.
There’s a LOT you need to take into consideration before you start mixing alcohol with your sex life.
Let’s take a look, shall we? First, let’s focus on the positives.

How alcohol can help with premature ejaculation
If you’ve ever downed some drinks at a party, you know that the right amount of alcohol can boost your confidence in social situations and help you have a better time. Here’s how that concept applies to sex.
Alcohol can boost confidence during intercourse.
Alcohol is referred to as “liquid confidence” for a reason!

It lowers inhibition and makes us feel confident about doing stuff we wouldn’t normally do. (Like getting all of our friends to dance on top of a coffee table until it breaks, for instance. Not that I have EXPERIENCE with that…)
This can be great if we’re feeling anxious about our ability to give her sexual pleasure. It helps us get out of our heads and into the sensations and arousal of our bodies.
If you’ve ever found cocktails to be sexual enhancers, it probably had something to do with your boosted confidence.
Alcohol can have a numbing effect on physical sensations.
Alcohol is a central nervous system suppressant. It works to eliminate certain sensations because it dulls your body’s ability to feel anything. So if you’ve, say, fallen off a coffee table while intoxicated, it doesn’t that bad. It only hurts when you realize you have some shiners the next morning!
This works as much on arousal and sexual pleasure as it does on pain. Not only does alcohol increase your pain tolerance, but it also increases your tolerance for pleasure.
This means you can withstand all those feel-good, sexy sensations during penetration — while giving you stamina and helping you last through foreplay, and even give her multiple orgasms.
Alcohol lowers your inhibitions.

This can be good! A lot of men with performance anxiety are afraid to take risks, and are therefore very inhibited when it comes to sex. In fact, many men are afraid to even have sex because of their fear of losing sexual stamina, busting too soon during penetration, and disappointing a woman.
However, a little bit of alcohol goes a long way.
There are plenty of risks we dot NOT want to take, like risking a sexually transmitted infection or an unplanned pregnancy.
There’s also a risk of going too far. Alcohol makes it more difficult for us to communicate, and many women have a hard time saying clear NO’s to begin with.
While you’re intoxicated, you might find it harder to notice the subtle clues that she’s NOT into what you’re doing.
It’s your job to pay attention and look out for signs of her saying “no” or risk doing something non-consensual that you’ll regret later.
If you’re going to drink with a woman who you plan on having sex with, make sure to start the consent conversation early and check in often, making sure to look for her subtle “no’s” as well as her enthusiastic “yes’s”.
If you want to learn more about consent, check out my TedX Talk. (That’s right — I bet you didn’t know I had a Ted Talk!)
Alcohol can cause delayed ejaculation… for better or for worse.
It’s well documented that alcohol can cause delayed ejaculation and can prevent you from ejaculating at ALL.
It’s also known that alcohol can cut off blood flow to your genitals, causing what is known as “whiskey dick” — the frustrating inability to achieve erectile function after drinking.
So careful on the amount you drink … you might run into symptoms of erectile dysfunction and impotence.
Its just as bad for women! Too many drinks can cause women not be able to get wet, and worse, can prevent them from reaching orgasm.
Besides, women get more intoxicated than men from drinking the same amount of alcohol. So if you’ve had the same amount to drink, she is statistically more likely to be intoxicated and less able to make decisions and MORE likely to suffer the negative consequences of drinking too much.
Drinking alcohol might help you last longer in bed in the short term, but is not a long term solution.
Not only can you not drink alcohol EVERY time you have sex (think: morning sex, weeknight sex, afternoon delights) will ALL be out. And you can forget about spontaneous sex! “Hold on honey, I have to wait until these tequila shots kick in before I can handle sex.”
Not hot, guys.
Alcohol can also have negative long-term consequences on your testosterone and on your ability to get erect. It’s not worth it to sacrifice your long-term erections for a short-term gain.
If you really want to last longer in bed, there is only one permanent solution, and that is tackling the underlying, permanent underpinnings of premature ejaculation with my Masterclass to help you last longer in bed, Come When You Want.
Remember: it’s not REALLY the alcohol that helps you last longer in bed.

Booze only helps to a point, and then it goes down hill.
Set yourself a drink limit. For me, that would be two drinks, but for you that might be one more or less.
Maybe your drink limit is zero, which is great too.
Having a couple drinks before sex can be fun here or there, but if you find yourself NEEDING alcohol to have sex or have fun, it’s time to call in the help of a professional.
Remember – it’s not the alchol that made you last longer in bed. Your ability to relax, to get out of your head, and to feel more confident in bed is what made you relax. So the next time you’re feeling down and out about your sexual performance, just remember the last time you were able to relax, and let that inspire in you what is possible.
Alcohol doesn’t cure anything. It’s just a band aid. If you want to end premature ejaculation for good, check out my course Come When You Want which will help you last longer in bed, control your ejaculation, and develop unshakeable confidence that lasts longer than any cocktail. (Hangover not included!)
Plus, you’ll get better erections! Win WIN!
